The best off-the-beaten-track National Parks in Tanzania for a safari

Tanzania has some of the most famous National Parks in Africa and the best-known parks, such as the Serengeti, are visited by safari goers in 500-to-1 ratios versus Tanzania’s lesser-known parks. For safari travelers looking to avoid the crowds and experience wildlife in relative solitude, these National Parks (and one protected area, the largest game reserve in Africa) can provide equally phenomenal wildlife viewing.

Gombe Stream and Mahale Mountains National Parks offer a different kind of safari. Both border Tanzania’s Lake Tanganyika on the Western border and back up to a forest wilderness that is home to wild chimpanzees. These parks do differ from one another, but both are excellent chimp trekking destinations.

These are our four picks for “off the beaten track” parks in Tanzania for a safari.
